ESXI – VMware Tools Ubuntu installation
VMware Tools is a suite of utilities that enhances the performance of the virtual machine’s guest operating system and improves management of the virtual machine. Installing it in the guest operating system is vital. Although the guest operating system can run without it, you lose important functionality and convenience.
VMware Tools Ubuntu installation starts by right clicking the virtual machine you wish to install the tools on, selecting “Guest”, and clicking “Install/Upgrade VMware Tools.”
1. Install the VMware tools Ubuntu dependencies.
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade sudo apt-get -y install linux-headers-server build-essential
2. Make the /media/cdrom directory.
sudo mkdir -p /media/cdrom
3. Mount the ISO img to /media/cdrom
It will mount as read-only.
sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom
4. Copy the payload to /tmp
cd /media/cdrom sudo cp VM*.tar.gz /tmp
5. Extract the File
cd /tmp sudo tar xzvf VM*.tar.gz
6. Install the script.
cd vmware-tools-distrib sudo ./vmware-install.pl -d
sudo shutdown -r 0
